Thanks so much Pearl! This is my edited (with everything added) version. It should probably go through one more round of editing, then I will complete the pages on the table of contents. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted13.doc
- Tasfia

Tasfia, here's the version with highlights. It's also on the discussion forum.
Hope it helps.

FOR PEARL AND LISA: I AM WORKING ON READING THE WHOLE MANUAL AND CHECKING FOR MISTAKES. I SHOULD BE DONE SOON. AFTER I AM DONE I NEED ONE OF YOU TO GO OVER THE WHOLE MANUAL AGAIN. this way it will beperfect after it goes trough two people.

For Pearl and Lisa: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted11.doc
Know what's odd? The first 19 pages of our book is actually about selection. The next 40 pages or so are glossaries, tests, etc.
Everything I was given has been put together. I also added some stuff. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted10.doc
This is an odd thing to post, but the NEWEST VERSION discussion has now gone onto a second page. My posts are found on the second page.
- Tasfia

The exercises answer key from 14-21 is done! Heres the link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12305542/EXERCISES_ANSWERKEY.doc. Oh and it starts from one but really it's fourteen and up.Here's the properly arranged answer key from 1-13: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12305542/Exercises_Answer_Key%20%281%29.doc. Lisa you didn't miss arrange them its just you forgot to answer a question, so everything got messed up. Anyways enjoy! :)
- Shreya

The newest version also up on the Discussion forum: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/Formatted9.doc The index page is added in. Sorry for the delay. - Pearl
I have posted a new discussion post, The final requirements for the project, please take the time to read it and compete steps that are necessary! We are almost done guys, keep working and we will succeed ;) Hwaiting!!!
-Zarin

Index Page: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/Index.docx PEARL! THIS LINK DOES NOT WORK!
^try again, does it work now? if not, email me (refere to conatact info page and i'll email you the attachment.
I realised that many of the terms on the corresponding Wiki page are impossible to add into the index page. Remember, we're only noting the pages that focus on each term. So, if the term was "variable", something you would add would be:
"Variables in if statements are..."
Something you would not add would be:
"We store this information in the variable letter"
Keep that in mind when you write the index. I think I covered the major topics, but it should be fine.
By the way, this is based on the 7th ver. of the manual.

On another note, I realise that the references to exercises specific to each lesson are still missing. Are we still doing those?
- Pearl

[Jan 19 2011 FINAL UPDATE]
The final edits are being made. We're pretty much done. Congratulations for making it this far! Now, before I blow up in anger - see, Andy went to sleep, so he can't cheer me up again, and it's very likely this irritablity will carry over to the morning - let me do a quick recap of what happened today.

The sixth version of the manual is up, and the link is both in the post below and the Discussion forum (topic: NEWEST VERSION OF MANUAL). The answer keys for the quizzes and the references pages were added; the glossary was edited and some new terms were added in; the font styling was done, courtesy of Tasfia. Thank you.

What's missing? The exercise answer key, which I'm sure Lisa is doing...am I correct? And the CD. I don't know what's happening with that, so someone must clarify. We also need a flow chart with all the books in the series; see the Discussion Forum for more info (topic: series).

Lisa will write the Index page tomorrow night.
Will Tasfia print out and laminate the advertisement? If not, one of us must make a Staples account and order that.

Tomorrow will be the last day to work on it in class.
We should be done tomorrow anyways.
[Jan 19 2011]
Okay, since it seems like no one cares about any other pages on this Wiki anymore, I'm firmly posting everything here on the homepage in hopes of someone taking a look and commenting on it. Hopefully people still read the news; why else would I spend five to ten minutes almost every night writing up a final update? (Which will follow this post.)
I've finished all the screenshots. here are all the Dropbox links, in order. I don't know how you want to put them in, since the sizes might be different from the ones previously made. If anyone cares about why we needed to remake them, it was because the window could not be unnamed. These screenshots should all be fine. If not, then either notify me ASAP or do it yourself. I don't care anymore.

I've made a new version that includes the answer keys and references. Tasfia, you might want to take a look at those pages to make sure they're formatted correctly. The Glossary needs to be revised; please take my definitions into consideration. Here are a few dropbox links.
Newest edited version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/Formatted6.doc
Individ. Answer Key (Quiz - If Statements): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/IF_Quiz_answerKey.doc
Individ. Answer Key (Quiz - Case Statements): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/CASE_Quiz_AnswerKey.docx
My ver. of glossary: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/ICS_CA_Glossary.doc

I'm going to alter some things in the glossary, okay?
I will also make the appropriate screenshots that need to be replaced.
That will be done tonight.
- Pearl

So sorry for the late update but I had to go print out by CA Mosaic project at Staples, please check the reference page, it has the final updat :)

-Zarin

We're almost done everyone! Keep up the great work girls :)

I've noticed a problem with out method of editing. A lot of my changes were not used or re-done because editing happens at the same time throughout the group. Please post if you are making changes or editing a certain part so no one else starts doing that too. For example, Pearl is not working on the answer key, so i'll remebr not to touch it. Remember, all these different files with edits have to be put together. Eventually we should go through the finished product one by one so we all know exactly what is in the manual. We're almost done! Keep up the good work.
Right now I am working on formatting and adding all the bold or coloured text.
- Tasfia
I'm almost done writing the Answer Key for the if statements, I'll have it done by tonight. Then, I guess I'll move on to the case statements. I'll add them into the manual later. :]
- Pearl

I am neglecting the FINAL UPDATE, sorry about that....but I have some news! The UNNAMED screenshots in the begining of the manual has to be NAMED , I will do those because Tasfia seems to be busy *girtts teeth* , check back at 8:00 - 8:30 for the finished! And the reference page will be postend ASAP (meaning right after i go home :)

-Zarin

[Jan 18 2011 FINAL UPDATE]: Well, welcome to the last two days of scrambling to finish this task. It is already officially Wednesday and the entire project is due tomorrow. As Lisa noted, we're basically done. There's just a few things left to do.

Before I say anything else, let me present you with the newest version of the manual, edited by Lisa and me. We added in the Answer Keys for both tests. Here's the link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/Formatted4.doc

As for what we need to finish, a good amount of it can be summed up in Lisa's list in the post below. The Index Page cannot be done until everything else is finalized. So work, work, work! I'm pretty sure Zarin's doing the References page, so that should be done easily. Is it Lisa who's taking care of turning the CD Exercises into sound? I think so, if I understood what we were talking about on MSN. Either Zarin or I will ask Mr. Arkin about that last error (Compile time expression expected) tomorrow--er, today. I guess I'll take care of styling the font. Please get me the final copy with EVERYTHING inside by 8 PM!

Someone needs to revise the Table of Contents and page references. Are we adding exercises for each unit? I saw those references, but I don't recall anyone making any.

Otherwise, that's it. We're almost there, but...y'know what? Forget about relaxing and work non-stop on this. I give up.

Days until the deadline: Let's stay it's still the 18th. There are only two days left!
[Jan 18 2011]
It is I, Lisa, again. I finally finishe editing the manual. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12311936/Edited_Version_CS_Manual.doc
The extended, edited version of the exercises, which Pearl and I worked on, is also up there. Pearl will now make the respective changes to the tests and update the answer key.
Sorry for not highlighting the changes. I thought since there was no ambiguous solution with the syntax and grammar, I made the changes.
There are still a few things left to make this manual complete: (Yes, I will make this list everytime I have a chance until Friday. haha)
  1. Index page right after About the Authors
  2. References after Index page
  3. CD Exercises in sound, digital file
  4. Revision of troubleshooting. Perhaps ask Mr. Arkin about the complier time error?
  5. Bolding and font-styling of keywords, etc. (According to Tasfia)
  6. Revision of Table of Contents and page references (e.g., I made 2 references to the exercises page in the manual, but I didn't specify the pg number. Instead, I left it blank.)
Thanks. If you already signed up for the task(s), please post your contribution in Dropbox link here.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/Answer%20Key.docx
That's the good copy of the answer key, edited by yours truly.
Lisa is almost done editing the manual - almost halfway through, ne?
I'll look over it one last time before it's finalized.
Remember to check the EXERCISES page. Please...
- Pearl
I've edited some of the questions for the tests, and wrote up a rough answer key.
**http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Answer%20Key.docx**
(your lucky Pearl, I almost saved this over your message).
It's Pearl here, back from the dead with another update.
Last night Shreya sent me the CD Exercises. There are six questions in total. I just finished writing the answer key.
Please take a look at the links on the Exercises page, especially the answer key! ConCrit is very, very welcome.
- Pearl

Hey guys! This is Tasfia. I just wanted everyone to leave the completion and editing of the tests to me. It seems pretty easy, and a lot of it was completed for me. I'm just going to make sure the answers make sense with the lessons and tests.

Can someone make te screenshots again while i do this?

From Lisa: I just woke up after being sleep deprived the whole day, so I will finish up to the end of Troubleshooting before I go to sleep tonight. Please keep updating the index page. The final index page will only be put up once all the pages are set, as I have to correspond the concepts to their page numbers. I will finish the index by 5pm on Thursday.
How are answer keys going? CD Exercises? Please update me on whats going on with these two tasks.

Thanks. Happy working! THREE DAYS LEFT!

[Jan 17 2011]
Proofreading edits: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12302193/ICS%20Culminating/Formatted2.doc
Pink - Logical errors (the first one doesn't make sense)
Yellow - Edits
I'm up to about page 10 now.
Lisa, we need to talk about how we're going to split this. Either call me at home or email me and I'll take a look when I get back.
I'm off now! Keep working hard, minna-sama~
- Pearl

Tasfia, please redo the editior window pictures, instead of them named as unnamed. Please make the appropriate changes and post them!
- Zarin

Lisa, please take a look at the Index Page before you start writing the actual one. I will start to proofread the manual right now and will tell you how far I got before class ends. While proofreading, I'll also make the appropriate formatting (specific font for keywords, code, etc.). Feel free to go over what I already did, though. :)
- Pearl

PLEASE POST ALL YOUR REFRENCES BY TODAY AND I WILL HAVE THEM IN APA FORMAT. CHECK BACK TO SEE THE PAGE : )
- Zarin

Alright, so right now this is a list of who's doing what (for the unfinished parts of the manual):
  • Index: Lisa
  • Proofreading: Lisa and Pearl
  • CD Exercises: Shreya
  • Exercises: Shreya
  • Answer Key: Shreya, Zarin, Pearl
  • References: Zarin
  • Final Layout: Tasfia
[Jan. 16 2011 LISA] Somehow I feel kind of lazy these days even though I am supposed to be working the hardest this month. I updated the proposal on vpca wikispaces, if anyone wants to take a look. In addition, I would be open to adding the keywords. That will probably be done as the proofreading section of the production.

Sorry about the screenshots, Zarin. I didn't know I couldn't have "unnamed" until Pearl told me tonight.

These are the tasks that still need to be completed:

  1. Index
  2. Proofreading
  3. CD Exercises
  4. Exercises
  5. Answer Key
  6. References
  7. Final layout
I didn't realize that there isso much left to do until I made this list. We have FOUR days left until the deadline. Our goal is to finalize everything by Wed night. Is that possible?

BTW: Please take a look at
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted.doc OR http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted.pdf
and give your feedback here:

[Jan 15 2011] The Troubleshooting help page in up and finalized! Take a look (Pearl thank you so much for the editor windows)!
-Zarin

Formatted version: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted.doc Any editing should be done in this file.
PDF file: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Formatted.pdf
After a verson has been edited, please number the file (example: Formatted2, Formatted3..)
Hope you guys like it!

ALSOO. I need someone to read over all 35 pages and bolden keyword, and put the correct font on certain parts of the code.
EXACTLY like this:

Keywords: case, if
Clauses: end if, end case, elsif, label...
Operators: and, if, <=…
Variables: name
Strings: “Emily”
Comments: % Basic case structure

Screenshots for the remaining ones are here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12305542/screenshots2.doc.docx
OH, I did the errors in the trouble shooting section as well and I'm not sure if I should do them for the "Test Yourself" part.
If I should please let me know asap. Thanks! :)
Oh, and whos doing the answer keys?

[Jan 14 2011 FINAL UPDATE]I have started to format. From now on, any new changes in text must be highlighted. If another full section is added, simply highlight the heading. This way I can easily see the changes and put them into the formatted manual.

Well! Another week has ended, and the deadline is less than a week away! We're basically done. Thank you to Tasfia for posting up a list of what we need to finish. Hopefully we can get all of them done by TOMORROW. It's better to have them done ASAP. Keep in mind that Tasfia needs the files so she can format the manual. They don't need to be perfect - Lisa and I will proofread/edit them on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

We already have an answer key for the Case Statement LP, and I know Zarin is working on one for Test 2. She will send it to me when she has finished her part, and I will write the rest of the answers up. Lisa and Tasfia, please write the answer keys for Test 1 and the If Statement LP respectively.

Would it be possible for Tasfia or Shreya to clean up and finalize the Table of contents?
Could someone also please write out the References in APA format? It's a very simple task.

There are some new topics on the Discussion Forum, so don't hesitate to head on over there and take a look. If you have anything to contribute, just add a reply. Some information needs to be cleared up, and quickly.

Today we accomplished:
- Certain answer keys
- Glossary (Check the corresponding page for the Dropbox link)
- Newest Version of manual (see post below)
- Troubleshooting FAQ (?)

Tasfia will try to put the entire manual together over the weekend, so it is essential that we complete all the writing ASAP!

Moreover, are we producing the CD or not? I haven't heard anything about it in a while.
Please direct your replies to the Discussion Forum.

After this weekend, there will only be four days before the deadline. Work hard, everyone!
Good luck!

[Jan 14 2011]
NEWEST VERSION: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/Version%2010.docx
I spent about an hour reading through all 32 pages of our manual. We are still in need of:
Answer key
Table of contents
Editing
Formating
        • please number any new versions to avoid confusion
Please keep in mind that those who have written a LESSON PLAN (CASE AND IF), they are required to submit their answer key for the quizzes.
I have just finished the answer key for the Case Statement Lesson plan, please go to the discussion forum first!

-Zarin
We need someone to write up an asnwer key for all quizes and tests. It doesn't have to be just one person, but it has to be soon.

Also, I think this group is still confused about our series. Please check the discussion forum for more details.

The final copy of the Case Statements LP is up! Take a look!
-Zarin

[Jan 14 2011 LISA] Newest version http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12311936/AUTHOR%20%281%29.docx
Mr. Arkin prefers APA,btw.

Shreya: please make the appropriate screenshots and upload on Screenshot Requests

Tasfia: Format, whoot! :)

Very excited!

[Jan 13 2011 LISA] DIRE NEED OF EDITING: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/AUTHOR%20%281%29.docx
To Lisa, I don't know where to put the screen shot. If you would be so kind to do the honors :)

Gosh, it has been a while since I updated this page. Here are the updates:
1) Everything is finished except: ANSWER KEY, GLOSSARY, INDEX, REFERENCES, and EXERCISES
2) Next steps:
1. Finish components in number one by Friday
2. Formatting of manual by Sunday OWNER: Tasfia
3. Proofread EVERYTHING by Wed OWNER: Lisa and Pearl
3) No CD, I guess.
4) Shreya did the screenshots of the example programs in the if and case statement lessons. Please apply them, Tasfia. :)
5) Follow schedule for tasks and deadline
6) Go to Book Binding Factory for next steps and clarifications.

[Jan 13 2011]: I have finished Test Two. Please check the Test page for the Dropbox link. Now all we have to write are the answer keys for both tests and both quizzes. Good luck, and please finish as soon as possible! - Pearl

[Jan 12 2011 FINAL UPDATE]: Another additon to the manual. Please edit as much as you can and re post it. the rest of the introduction has t be edited http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/AUTHOR%20%281%29.docx

Wanna check out everyting we have so far? http://dl.dropbox.com/u/12303914/AUTHOR.docx
Thanks to Tasfia for providing us with that link. With that said, I'm happy to say that things are finally coming together. I have edited the If Statements lesson and posted up a Dropbox link; Zarin has finished the rough draft of the Case Statements lesson and has also posted up a Dropbox link. They are on the corresponding pages.

The Glossary is coming along quite nicely as well. The definitions just need to be "spiced up" a little, and I think we're fine. Thank you, Shreya!

Lisa has confirmed that the Introduction will be done tomorrow.
Test one has been completed - please take a look if you haven't already; and Test two will be finished shortly. Please remember to provide answer keys for any quiz, test or exercise.

I think that's it. Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything.
We're making good progress, but we should pick up the pace. The deadline is quickly approaching.

Days until deadline: 8

[Jan 12 2011]:
The good copy of the If Statements LP is up! A Dropbox link is provided on the corresponding page.
- Pearl

The first draft of the Case statement LP is up! Take a look, I have provided the dropbox link! Comment and Critique please!
-Zarin

The final draft of the About the Authors page is up. Pearl will edit the if statements lesson plan now. Lisa has also created a Screenshot Requests page if you need any screenshots. ...That sounded strangely repetitive.
Shreya will take care of the production of the CD.
If you have written a quiz or test, please provide an answer key. It is essential that you do so.

I put up a new cover and poster on the summary/teaser page a while ago. please comment. I might have to redo it again if you guys dont like it.
- Tasfia

[Jan 11 2011 FINAL UPDATE]: Ah, well, it's not really the 11th anymore, but oh well. More progress has been made, and I feel like we're scrambling to get this done as soon as possible. Which is, in a way, a good thing.

Please take a look at the Troubleshooting Help Page. Zarin must write it out soon, and she needs more examples. If you come across an error that isn't already in the examples mentioned, please put it in. Troubleshooting may not seem important, but it is. It's like having a textbook with no index. Sorry, I like comparisons.

The first test is about 70% finished. I will do my best to finish the rest tonight (this morning?), and Zarin and I will start on Test 2 tomorrow. As for the quizzes, we'll have to work on those as well. Test One is finished. Please go to the Tests page to access a Dropbox link. Take a look and comment!

I have basically finished the final copy of the About the Authors page. I won't officially say it's complete yet, because Shreya needs to provide a bit more information. I wanted to keep about the same structure for each person's blurb, so...yeah.

The glossary terms are up as well. Please take a look and make any necessary edits. Remember, we want the language to be professional but easy-to-understand.

Shreya will be taking on the task of producing the CD. When you have time, please go to the corresponding page and suggest ideas. Any ideas are very welcome. Hopefully she can get started on that soon.

Lisa will merge the two parts of the introduction together, so that will be done soon, hopefully.

I'm glad to see we're using the References page! *smile* It's a good habit to get into, especially when you can get kicked out of Uni if you don't reference your work.

I've deleted the progress report page, because it's basically another version of "Completed Tasks and Next Steps".

Great job, everyone! Continue your hard work, but make sure you don't spontaneously combust like I do. :)

Days to the deadline: 9
[Jan 11]
I have set up a due date for the troubleshoot help page: Jan 12th 11:59pm
As for the Case Stamens (Lesson Plan), the first draft will be up today, hopefully. The due date is set up for Jan 13th for the FINAL draft.
-Zarin

[Jan 8-10 FINAL UPDATE]: We have made a lot of progress over the last few days! In few words, we have finished the majority of the writing part. Soon Tasfia will be ready to put it together.

The deadline Mr. Arkin set is THURSDAY, JANUARY 20, 2011. Our goal is to finish by Sunday, January 16th at the latest. To do this, we'll have to finish the entire writing part by...Friday at the very latest, I'd say. Let's not make Tasfia stress out!

We'll have to cover the issue of Quizzes and Tests. There is a quiz for each lesson, and two tests at the end of the book. Lisa will write the first one, while Zarin and Pearl will collaborate on the second. Earlier today, I updated the Tests page, so please take a look at that if you haven't already. It would be great if you guys could contribute ideas or possible questions to ask. Although it would be nice to have some important quiz questions on the test, we don't want it to be repetitive, so we need lots of ideas!

More components of the book we need contributions to are:
- Exercises
- Quizzes
- Test
- Troubleshoot Help Page (URGENT!!!)

And don't forget to request any flow charts if you need them. :)

Another thing I'd like to emphasize is the fact that we must reference our work. So far, I have been the only one using outside resources. Remember, even using our class website (touque.ca) requires referencing. When all the writing has been finished, someone will put all the references in either APA or MLA format. (Someone should ask Mr. Arkin about which one to use - either Zarin or I'll do it, since we have ICS first thing tomorrow.)

Keep on working! We're doing great!

[Jan 10 2011]
I will leave the About the Author's page unedited until tomorrow, in case anyone wants to make any last minute edits/additions/suggestions. Moreover, Shreya should provide some information. Please do so by 6 PM on Tuesday, January 11th. Thank you!
I updated the TESTS page. Please take a look. We should also get started on the QUIZZES as well.
- Pearl

I have just finished the first draft for the Trouble Shoot help page, check that out! Oh, and welcome to group Shreya!
-Zarin

Shreya has joined our group! Let's give a big welcome to her! :)
She will be taking care of the Glossary. I have set a due date for her for the 14th.
Zarin's Case Statement Lesson Plan deadline will be extended to Jan 13th, as she has tests to study for.
If you have any comments, questions or complaints, please voice them.

I forgot to post up an update last night, so I'll bunch it in with tonight's. I'm getting home at around 11:30 PM, so it will probably be up by midnight. :)

Thank you!
- Pearl

Please look at our proposal for the due dates and your jobs that must be accomplished, Pearl and I have set out a approximate date when we have to finish each task due to proposal requirements set out by Mr. Arkin. If you are obliged to change the date, contact any us!

-Zarin

[Jan 8 2011]
I still have some work to finish for the case statement lesson plan, Tasfia helpied with the introduction and now I just have to continue it! I am mostly likely to finish it Tuesday night so check for that, the latest wednesday afternoon. PLEASE CONTIBUTE TO THE TROUBLESHOOT HELP PAGE, I HAVE TO FINISH IT BY WENESDAY!

I have just finished the lessn for if statements. Pleae not that itis not edited, and ust be revsed.
- Tasfia

I have finished the first part of the Introduction! Take a look and give feedback, please. :)
I will create some flow charts this weekend, but as I didn't bring my ICS binder home, I have to do the...I think it was second one on Monday.
I have finished the About the Authors page, rough draft. Please take a look and feel free to give input or ConCrit, make suggestions, or edit it by MONDAY, JANUARY 10, 2011. I will make the changes accordingly and have the good copy up on the Wiki and on Dropbox by Tuesday night.
- Pearl

Zarin:
Just finished the AUTHORS' NOTE, check that out!

As for the case statements lesson plan, I will update it pretty late, so tomorrow. I will be done by Tuesday for sure or Wednesday the latest!

Another Note, I have requested Pearl to prepare some FLOW CHART for the manual, the FLOW CHART page is for you guys to request flow charts from the Turing hand book. Take a look at that page and request.

Tasfia: Haha. Pink rules. Please check out the new DETAILED TABLE OF CONTENTS. obviously this is not the actual table of contents that will be in the book, it is a checklist for our tasks. please don't skim. try to take in everything! Have a great weekend!

Please visit each page for changes and updates, lesson plans are set and we are now contribuiting to the pages!

[Jan 7 2011 FINAL UPDATE]: Week One of Culminating is officially over! (Considering that I'm writing this at 12:15 AM.)

The final content of the manual has been finalized. I made that list of book pages, but it's more like a progress report and page count, as we have the Table of Contents to guide us.

Like Lisa said, a lot of pages have been updated and created. Please remember to contribute to the following pages: Troubleshooting FAQ, Test and Quiz questions, If statements lesson, Case statements lesson, Glossary, Index.
Also be sure to update the References page accordingly. Should we put them in APA or MLA format? (It's not a hard, time-consuming task: there are websites like OWL Purdue that can help; if no one else wants to, I don't mind doing it.)

The About the Authors page information is finally completed! Thank you, everyone. :)
And! Let's give a big thank you to Tasfia for writing out that detailed Table of Contents. You're amazing!

We should indeed strive to get the writing part of this done by next week. Let's try to finish by...Wednesday? I, myself, have relatively simple tasks, so if anyone wants input or extra help, just ask.
Keep updating the Glossary as you go. I'll check it every day for any new definitions, just in case a key word comes up that isn't already on the list.
Remember to check the new schedule, and update the Completed Tasks accordingly.

For the weekend: I will only write a final update on Sunday evening, after checking every Wiki page. If you have any important news, feel free to update yourself.

On that note, work hard to reach our goal! There are only two weeks left before exams!
But know your limits, too, okay? :)

[Jan. 07 2011 LISA] A lot of pages have been updated. Even I myself am shocked at how many pages we have. This just goes to show how much work needs to go into this assignment! I recommend that you go through each page again and read it over. It should take you no more than 10 minutes. The most important thing to note is the schedule. I make a lot of significant changes to it. I also PUSHED THE DEADLINES UP. This means that many of the deadlines have been changed. This was because I had a request from Tasfia to make sure all the writing is finished by next week so we can focus on finalizing the book, other culminating activities from other subjects, and exams.

I hope this is not asking too much. Pearl will post another update elaborating on our progression and future plans later on tonight. HAPPY WRITING! :)

[EDIT BY ZARIN AGAIN] I will have the final draft of the Authors' Message up tomorrow, in the afternoon. Please make sure to read it and make comments if you have any.

[Jan 7 2011]: Mr. Arkin has taken a look at our proposal. He made some edits and suggestions, so Zarin and I will work on that. We have also posted some suggestions on the schedule's discussion forum. We are finally getting to the actual content of the book, so it's important that we finalize everything BY SUNDAY. I will make a page with a list of all the components of the book and CD, so please check it out and update it when it is done.

[EDIT BY ZARIN] Please visit the new page that I made: Authors' Message! I just finished it and posted it! All the other details are at that page : )

[Jan 6 2011]: It's Pearl again, giving you guys the daily update! (Don't worry, I'll strive to do this every day after I get a summary of our progress from Lisa.)

All right, our idea has officially been approved! Let's have a "Hip Hip Hooray!" You can find a copy of our proposal here. Now, it's time to (as my old middle school teacher always said) get the ball rolling. Thanks to Lisa, a barrage of new pages concerning the production of the manual have been put up. You can always access them from the sidebar (to the right), but I'll provide a list of the relevant pages in this update. Please be sure to check out the schedule as it has been updated as well with new tasks. It's time to pick tasks again! (Now I'll be cheesy and say, "Are you ready for the challenge?")

The basic components of the book, as well as who is doing what, are up on the Book Production page. Of course, this information is very general.
Tasfia will take care of the actual creation and design of the book. Finished pages will be uploaded onto Dropbox, and the links can be accessed via the Book Binding Factory.
We will be including exercises for the reader. These will be thought up after we have finished writing the lessons, so there is currently nothing on the page. Similarly, the quizzes will be at the end of every lesson. This page consists of possible questions to ask. An option is asking Mr. Arkin if he would let us use one of his examples.
What is a handbook without a glossary? This page currently includes a list of key terms. We will define them later, as this is not our first priority.
Consequently, an index will be included as well. Be sure to update the index page with any concepts a reader might want to look up. It will be written, of course, after the main content of the book is done.
We will cover any errors that may come up when using selection: the problem and the solution. This page has examples of errors, and why they happened. Everyone may contribute, but Zarin will be writing the final copy. One might decide to google "Turing selection errors". Perhaps an useful website will come up.
One last, extremely important thing. Please, please, please remember to reference your work. Give credit where credit is due. This page will have all the resources we used, including photos/images, websites (including Touque.ca) and tangible resources. We can include a references page in the manual - it is not unheard of.

The only thing that needs to be printed out is the summary/teaser. This also needs to be laminated.

Just to be sure, I need to ask. Are we absolutely going to go through with the CD? Please discuss this on the discussion forum. If we do decide to do this, we must include it in the official proposal. It may be a bit too much, so I would veto it.

[Jan 6 2011 FROM ZARIN]: Ok, so this is the plan for today. Pearl and I are working on the final copy today and finishing it. We will print it out as a hardcopy and of course post it in the wiki. That means that we can post the proposal afterschool when everyone has agreed to it! Just a notice, afterschool there will be message sent to notify that the proposal is done and it is ready to be discussed with Mr. Arkin. Please reply back with your thoughts or suggestion, I will try to add them and afterwards the FINAL copy will be posted and that is it.

[EDIT BY PEARL]: Since Mr. Arkin has set the deadline of 3 PM (end of the school day) to get our idea approved, Zarin and I have finished the proposal and we will present it to Mr. Arkin right now. We deeply regret that we could not get Lisa or Tasfia's input. A copy of our proposal can be found on the Proposals Page. We finalized some stuff, and if you have any questions, please either call, email or IM Zarin or me.

On another note, there is a new task. Since we have decided to include quizzes and a test, someone needs to take on the task of actually writing them. If no one else would like to do it, I'm willing to give it a try. Of course, we can always work in groups.

Tasfia, please update your information on the About the Authors page. I'd like to start writing the small blurbs very soon.

Mr. Arkin has been invited to the Wiki! Welcome!

[Jan 5 2011 FROM LISA]: Hey, the mosaic project is not going so well with me. I just got home from night class, so I will be on the ball starting tomorrow. I added a few things on the Wiki, including the References page. If you use a photo or do research, PLEASE add the date and your source onto the resource page.

For everyone:
1. Update contacts page if you haven't
2. Contribute a few points and ideas to: A. Summary-Teaser, B. Proposals, C. Production of CD, D, About the Authors
3. There is an ongoing debate if whether we should produce a CD, since we can only submit it via the cyber, meaning we cannot burn a physical CD. Do you still want to? It will require more work to produce one and make it good-- but it will be worth it. Please submit your input in the PRODUCTION OF CD page.
I have a good feeling about this project. Big thanks to Pearl for constantly updating the home page for news. AND EVERYONE ELSE BECAUSE YOU ARE SO EAGER TO SIGN UP FOR TASKS TO DO. YEAH!

Just a note: (in reference to the new BOOK PRODUCTION page), PLEASE READ THE ASSIGNMENT REQUIREMENTS. All work must be submitted as a computer file. The summary/teaser will be printed, but materials will be fortunately provided by the wonderful Tasfia, whose dad owns a UPS store.

[Jan 5 2011]: We have posted a rough draft of the propasal up on the VPCA Wiki. To see it, go here. Zarin has taken on the task of writing the good copy, so hopefully a more detailed version will be up soon.
The Bi-Weekly Schedule Page has been renamed, and is now SCHEDULE - TASKS AND DEADLINES. It's the same information, but at the request of Lisa, was renamed due to the fact that it isn't bi-weekly anymore. Ha.

The Mosaic Project was due today, so we can devote more of our time to the actual CA now. Work hard and do your best! But! Don't overdo it. Speaking from personal experience, exhaustion is not fun at all - you feel like you want to sleep forever and it takes a tremendous amount of effort to even walk from one place to another. It's not something you want to suffer from, especially near exam time.

By the way, if anyone could find an icon suitable for the "logo" of this Wiki, that'd be awesome. It's not mandatory, but it's nice to personalize our stuff, right?

[Jan 4 2011]: The Wiki is created! Thanks to Lisa, the proposal page is up. We should brainstorm ideas for our proposal, and get it accepted as soon as possible. We only have about two and a half weeks, so let's get started!

So far, we've had the idea of writing a small instruction manual. Fun, right?
To look at our ideas so far, go to Proposals.
To suggest a topic, go to the DISCUSSION page.

Oh, and one last thing. After we're done with this thing, I'm going to delete this wiki. It's a private one, so it's only free for thirty days. (Just enough time, ha!)

To Zarin and Tasfia: Please look through all the pages and fill in information as required. Sign up for tasks, as well. You should be spending a 1-3 hours every night on the CA. Once you are done the task, depending on what it is, please post it on a discussion forum, page, and/or mass email it all the member. Hooray! That's the advantage to working with a group. We work together and share tasks. XD

Good luck to all!
